On this day the constitution of our country was implemented. But you would be surprised to know that the Republic Day celebrated on January 26 was celebrated as ‘Independence Day’. Let’s know what is the whole story.

Independence of India on 15th August 1947, but on 26th January 1950, India became a full republic. This day celebrates the whole of India as Republic Day. The Constitution was fully prepared on November 26, 1949 but after waiting for two months it was enforced on January 26, 1950.

The Constitution was chosen on the date of January 26, because in the year 1930, on January 26, under the leadership of the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, the Indian National Congress had declared ‘Full Swaraj’ against the British rule.
